Friday October 28th: HALLOWEEN MINI SESSIONS! I will be taking photos of your kids in Halloween costumes in our spooky woods. Each session will be 15-20 minutes long, you'll receive 5 to 10 photos via email within a week, and the cost will be $15 per session.

My neighbors have the most lovely yard -- winter, spring, summer, fall, no matter the season, it's a photographer's paradise. They were kind enough to let me shoot a family there yesterday, with great results.

These two sisters were fun to photograph. The older girl is just three but has the vocabulary of a child twice her age. She was eager and willing to talk to me and see the camera. The younger one wanted no one but mom, but I was happy we got some great photos of her adorable curls anyway.

Kim and I go way back, to when my second and her first were born. Fourteen months later, she had another sweet girl. Then four years ago, Katie entered their lives and changed everyone's perspective and expectations! Kim is a wonderful mother to her three special girls.

This is my favorite shot from what was a very cold session in the snow.

But this is the shot I'm proudest of -- Katie was not a huge fan of me and my camera, so I'm thrilled to capture this beautiful smile (of course, her big sisters helped a LOT to get her happy, so I can't take all the credit)The whole family -- you can see Katie's not too happy with me.
She's a little happier here -- this is one of my favorites of the whole group.

The orchard I took these pictures at was like Grand Central Station tonight -- several brides, couples, and lots of families with tons of photographers everywhere. It was fun to be there and this family is so great to be with. We got so many great shots and I hope to get some more up later; here's just two for now.

20 x 30 Collages

One of my favorite things is to create collages for families to print for their walls. These are usually 20 x 30, a size Costco prints for $9 and for which frames can be found as low as $12. It's a great way to show off the best of the photos from a shoot, as these examples show, and especially in my own case, with eight kids, it sure beats printing up 9 to 10 individual photos and then trying to line up them exactly on the wall!

This beautiful baby was so much fun to play with today. One of the things I love about photography is that every shoot has so much variability -- you can plan and dream about the shots you want, but when you show up, there's a lot of discovering who you're with, what they're like and plenty of surprises. I love that we caught this little guy smiling, for instance, just as I'd finished setting up the shot.

And I love all the different expressions that only newborns can make.

And then there's always the shots that capture real life -- crying and all!

But most of all, I love those sweet little sleeping newborns.

And sweet fingers and toes.

I think newborn photography is my favorite, especially when it's my own little baby! I finally caught Katie when she was asleep for a few minutes this afternoon. She didn't stay asleep for more than a few minutes once I started posing her, but long enough to get some beautiful shots.

I know these next two shots are similar, but I love them both and can't decide which one I like better.

This is my best friend's family. It was such a privilege to take their photos yesterday. Rachel is an amazing mother of six and you would have been shocked at how easy they were to photograph! I've often said I want to be like Rachel when I grow up, and she and her husband's relaxed, patient attitude during photos confirmed that (I'm always stressed out when our family's pictures are getting taken!).

This family was so fun to photograph, though a few of the kids weren't too excited about getting their photos taken. My style, though, is to get in, get the photos, and get out, and 45 fairly painless minutes later, plus some time processing the photos in Photoshop, and we have some great treasures.

I think this one is my favorite, because it's almost perfect, but not quite -- don't you love the tongue sticking out?

When I told my husband which family's photos I was taking, he said, "Oh, their girls are so cute!" And they are -- what's more, they know just how to pose!

And their oldest has got a great smile, too!

Three Weeks Early

Yet WIDE AWAKE for the whole photo shoot! Aren't little week-old babies supposed to sleep more than that? This one was only 5 lbs 9 ounces a week ago.

In any case, I had so much fun with this little guy. I think this photo is my favorite:

His Grandma is Guatemalan, so we were able to incorporate some of the textures and patterns of his heritage in the shoot:

It was so much fun to spend an hour with this little 2-week-old this morning. She made me long to meet my own new little girl -- I've only got about six weeks left!

This family was so fun to work with! We've been friends since back when our first children were born, but I haven't seen their family in years. The 7 and 8 year olds were so easy to photograph, the 3 year old was a bit more of a challenge. She wasn't too excited about looking at the camera! Katie has some special needs, but it's clear that she's absolutely adored. Her older sisters were so loving and kind to her.

I had a great time this afternoon with this beautiful family. The weather was iffy, but it didn't start to rain until we were just about finished.

Miles has the most adorable face and beautiful eyes -- his parents take tons of photos of him, so he was used to the camera. He stood right where we wanted him until he decided to take his hat off. He took it off, walked over to hand it to his mom, then walked right back and went back to posing! So funny.

Kristen is a friend of mine and she's due just a few weeks before me -- I wish I looked this good pregnant!

Jesse & Kayla Engaged! { Utah County Engagement Photos }

This afternoon, I took my first set of engagement photos. It was so much fun, especially because Jesse & Kayla are SO incredibly photogenic and beautiful. You can tell how much they enjoy each other.

I look forward to doing their wedding next month, though it intimidates me -- you just have ONE CHANCE to get it right. I feel pretty good about it, though, knowing they originally weren't planning on a professional photographer. I'm pretty sure I can do better than NOBODY, right?

And with beautiful people like these, how could the photos go wrong?

The day had been mostly overcast and gray, but the sun came out just in time for our shoot. I love how the water glistens behind them.

I had a great time this afternoon catching photos of some very cute kids! It snowed a ton last night, so we had some beautiful backgrounds.

I was asked to take photos of the three school kids, but since the youngest two were along for the ride, we grabbed a few of the whole crew -- five kids!

We even caught a few ducks just passing through.

DH convinced me at the last minute to spend the weekend with his parents in rural Sanpete County. I told him I still needed to do a photoshoot on Saturday, though I wasn't quite sure where I would find good backgrounds, since the parks down there are not quite the same as the ones here. I needn't have worried. I knew my in-laws had a beautiful log house that would work for backgrounds . . .

. . . and I knew they had some nice evergreen trees I could pose the girls in front of . . .

. . . but I'd forgotten they also had some great historic touches, such as the wagon owned by my kids' great-great grandfather!

I think this was my favorite shoot yet.
Of course it helps that I had such cute girls to work with!

But despite the fact that these two five-year-olds are full of spunk and personality, and probably because of it, we got some wonderful photos!

The point of the shoot was to get some great photos of the two of them together, but I also took a few cute solo shots here and there:

There was a lot of snow, but we also had tons of mud to deal with -- look closely at her boots!

It was really hard to choose just the best to put on this blog; there were so many keepers. However, I think these two are my favorites. I love the old-fashioned, vintage look to them.

As a mother myself and a student-wife for many years, I know how precious each dollar can be in a growing family. Therefore, I have made a conscious decision to offer budget-conscious, competitive pricing to fit all families. That's why I give out full negatives of all the best photos from our shoot and I don't charge per print. The digital photos you receive with each package will include high-quality, full-resolution images so that you may create, share, and print these images now and in the future.

I know that not everyone loves getting their picture taken and that, especially in large families, sometimes a shorter photography shoot is better.

That's why I offer two kinds of photoshoots:

1. The Photo Blast. This is for those of you who just want some great pictures for the wall or for Christmas cards, but know baby Jack or hubbie Joe will not put up with lots of different posing or moving around to change backgrounds. These shoots are typically close to home -- in my wooded backyard, your landscaped one, or at a nearby park. The shoot will last between 20 and 30 minutes and the focus will be on what you want most -- getting that perfect shot with everyone looking great, then smaller groups and individuals. I'm believe great photos don't have to take a lot of time and I know how important it is to be flexible, especially when working with little ones.

2. The Photo Full. This is for those who want the traditional photos plus plenty of fun lifestyle, candid, and unique shots. We'll still get the same important shots as in the photo blast, but we'll go to more extensive locations, move around a lot more, try fun and interesting combinations and have a lot of fun. These sessions last from 45 minutes to 75 minutes depending on the location and the size of the group.
